India’s Space Explorers

The gringa has done innumerable posts on NASA, several on the European Space Agency (ESA) and even the space programs of Russia, China and Japan. Were my dear readers aware that India has its own space program? They do. It is called the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and they are now on the brink of exploring the galaxy with their own re-usable shuttle.

To India’s credit, they have accomplished the feat of designing and constructing a reusable launch vehicle for a fraction of what SpaceX spent on their reusable rocket. If their shuttle model is a success, the world may have to turn its eyes to India as the next world leader in space program development and exploration. Not only are they getting things done, but doing so extraordinarily efficiently.

On its virgin flight, the 21 foot long shuttle, weighing one and three-quarter tons, reached Mach 5 as it zipped through space 39 miles above Earth. The craft successfully splashed down right on target at coordinates in the Bay of Bengal. This prototype is much smaller than NASA shuttles but if the design is right and all goes well, India plans to enlarge the shuttle’s length by one hundred feet by the year 2030. By designing a re-usable shuttle, India will realize a 90% savings with every single launch. Cost was the very reason NASA’s shuttle program was discontinued.

Aerospace experts around the world view India’s achievement with great interest.  By drawing upon the successes and failures of other space agencies around the world, India has developed a space program that has avoided costly mistakes. They have also been able to model their inspirations upon the successes that have been accomplished. India is managing a successful and growing space program with a budget that, on average, is about three times smaller than their Western counterparts. One reason is that they have eliminated much of what we Westerners call pesky bureaucracy.

Going red tape free, however, is not without its risks. Only time will tell if lack of regulation results in a more hazardous space program. Re-usable shuttles should translate into multiple launches annually. This will mean more money for the space program by infusions of cash from investors and contractors who want their payloads delivered to the International Space Station and other countries paying cab fare for their astronauts to hop a ride.

At the rate India is clipping along with progress at a significant lower price, they may just boot SpaceX out of the space transport market altogether. Who knows, it may be India that gets to Mars first. And according to the stock market, investors seem to have the same suspicion. The companies involved in supplying ISRO with the materials they need have become quite attractive for foreign and Indian investors.

The gringa has always wanted to visit India. It’s rich history and beautiful culture has always intrigued me. Now, I have hopes that in yet one more country on this grand globe, this astronaut hopeful has just one more option of space programs that, one day, may be interested in sending a gringa into outerspace.

Buzzed By Space Junk or ET’s?

In 2017 Earth is expected to be “buzzed” by a mysterious object being tracked by satellites and called “1991 VG” because in 1991 it did its first recorded fly-by of our planet. In December of that year the object, which is about 30 feet (10 meters) across, buzzed past Earth as it continued in its orbit around the Sun (called a heliocentric orbit in fancy Science-speak). Stargazer James Scotti at University of Arizona’s Kitt Peak observatory, using the Spacewatch telescope, spotted VG in November and continued to track it as it passed by.

Observers noted that it shone brightly but this brightness would often go through rapid fluctuations. Scientists argued that this was indicative of it not being an organic object like an asteroid. Could it be a man-made piece of space junk that has been destined to orbiting the Sun until it disintegrates? Well, let’s see just how much space junk is out there in a heliocentric orbit:

Chinese Space Junk

India Space Junk

  • Mangalayaan (2013-2014)

Despite the number of man-made objects orbiting the Sun, there are some space enthusiasts who eagerly await 1991 VG’s arrival, wondering if it might be an alien space probe sent to observe our planet. Scientists don’t know exactly what it is… yet. Here are some of the details they are certain of through telescopic and satellite observations:

  • It has a strange rotation.
  • It has existed a very long time in outer space.
  • It rotates rapidly
  • It has reflective fluctuations

Here are the theories bandied about as to what it could be:

  • Alien space probe
  • Small meteorite
  • Apollo 12 rocket

However, after researching each man-made possibility, they have ruled them all out. So, we are left with the possibilities of a small meteorite or an alien-made object. It’s reflective properties has scientists leaning toward a non-organic object which then leaves only an alien-made object left on the list. However, scientists also do not rule out the possibility of a Russian-made object that the science community is simply unaware of. During the years of the Soviet space program, they were very secretive. Information about failed space missions that resulted in space junk left floating about into infinity and beyond was often suppressed. So, there is the possibility that it is a bit of old, secret Soviet space history.

In tracking the trajectory of the object’s orbit, it can be determined that 1991 was not the first fly-by of VG. It also would have passed near the Earth in March of 1975. Repeat visits are another reason scientists rule out an asteroid or meteor because typically if such an object neared Earth like 1991 VG, it would either be trapped by our planet’s gravitational pull and either burn up in the atmosphere or crash (worst case scenario) or have its own trajectory affected and changed by Earth’s gravity. This object’s trajectory remains unaffected by Earth’s pull.

Because its orbit is very similar to Earth’s path around the Sun, some scientists speculate on the alien observation probe theory. Next summer Earthlings will get another up close opportunity to peek at the object as it skims over the planet’s southern hemisphere.

Edinburgh mathematicians have calculated the very real possibility that extra-terrestrials could be successful at launching observation space probes across vast galactic distances to spy on humans. Their work, published in the Journal of Astrobiology, asserts that by taking advantage of gravitational fields surrounding stars they could achieve the necessary speeds for an observation probe to travel to Earth from the far reaches of space of which humans are completely ignorant of and incapable of exploring. In fact, humans are already using this technology in the Voyager probes zipping about the universe.

Regardless of whether it’s a big space rock, hunk of junk or extra-terrestrial peeping Tom tool, the gringa has her calendar marked for the Summer of 2017. I expect interesting things to happen.

Only 4 More Years…

No, the gringa’s not talking about high hopes for an historical third term of Obama’s presidency to rescue the entire world from the potential disaster of a Trump presidency. The gringa is talking about China and Mars. In just 4 more years China plans to land a rover on Mars.

Now, this may not seem like big news considering that NASA has had a fleet of robotic spacecraft on or around Mars dating back as far as forty years. The significance of China’s contribution is that, well, the more the merrier when it comes to increasing knowledge about Mars and creating the technology necessary for human exploration.

China’s plan is patterned after NASA’s successful Viking I mission that landed the first rover on Mars forty years ago. China intends to orbit the Red Planet, land a rover, perform rover exploration and, once the mission is accomplished, learn from the experience to take another step forward in their own ambitions of a manned mission to Mars.

Like NASA, China’s space program also collaborates with private industry which is not only stimulating their economy, but rapidly advancing their mission objectives. In 2003 they launched their first manned spacecraft, Shenzhou. They also have their very own laboratory and space station orbiting the moon, Tiangong 1. Chinese astronauts aboard Tiangong 1 have performed a space walk and successfully explored the Moon with rover Yutu.

All of this space activity is really preparations for the greater goal, landing a manned mission on Mars. Next month China will launch a mission to deliver the components to recreate Tiangong 1, their experimental space station, into Tiangong 2, a permanent space station. Spacecraft Shenzhou 11 will deliver a 2 person crew who will reside in the space station for several days performing the necessary renovations.

Once China’s space station has successfully been converted to a permanent site, they can plan a manned mission to the Moon and begin rehearsing for a Mars mission. While other countries have slowed their space mission activities, China’s ambitious program has 20 missions planned for 2016. So, keep your eyes turned toward China for interesting developments.

It seems the space race is on to see who gets to Mars first. NASA plans a manned Asteroid Redirect Mission for 2025 and a manned orbit of Mars in the 2030s. The gringa would rather it be a team effort rather than a flag planting competition. However, if a race is what it takes to motivate engineers and scientists to up their game and move full speed ahead in the greatest exploration adventure of the gringa’s lifetime, well, who am I to judge?

Who Were Those Ancient Siberians?

An interesting Siberian archaeological site is the tittle-tattle of historians recently, squabbling on what ancient people get credit for the structure sitting on an island in the middle of  a lake. It’s over one thousand years old so Russians, as we know them today, are not the culture responsible for this structure. Who the heck needed a fortress in Siberia 1,300 years ago?

Experts have dated it to about 750AD. Situated in the middle of Lake Tere-Khol in Tuva, this high altitude lake location has some historians believing it could possibly indicate religious, astronomical, or imperial significance. The theories bandied about are that it is possibly a regent’s summer palace, a monastery or, perhaps, an observatory for the heavens.

Finding out what was going on in Siberia in the 700s is not as easy as one might think. A trip to Wikipedia (the source of all online knowledge, right?) reveals that Russia’s historical timeline inconveniently begins in 860AD with a record of the Rus’-Byzantine War. Wikipedia has let the gringa down.

Digging back a bit further, things get vague. One simply has to pick up a bit here and bob over there and put together a picture that, although still a bit hazy, can at least deliver a pretty good idea of who the heck was running the show in Siberia in the 750s.

The first stop on the collection route of ancient Siberian bits and bobs is linguistics. Author Rein Taagepera penned a book entitled “The Finno-Ugric Republics and the Russian State”. There is a single quote that sheds some light on the 750s mystery people of Siberia:

“Samic was previously considered a language with disparate dialects but is now increasingly seen as  a collection of half a dozen related languages that diverged some 1,300 years ago. They are spoken in northern Scandinavia and the Kola Peninsula in the Russian Federation.”

Here, at least, Wikipedia did not let the gringa down. Wikipedia explains that the Samic language is believed to have its roots in ancient Finland dating from 1000BC-700AD. The Finnish-Samic link to this Siberian archaeology site is further strengthened by an observation made by Ludmila Koryakova and Andrej Vladimirovich Epimakhov in their book, “The Urals and Western Siberia in the Bronze and Iron Ages”:

“In the sixth-third centuries BC, their northern trade was oriented to southeastern Europe, but after the second century BC, caravans went to western Siberia, where the Sargat culture constituted the most powerful ethnic and political union.”

So, the gringa believes an actual cultural identity can now be assigned to ancient Finnish ancestors speaking the Samic language who settled in Siberia – the Sargats. Researchers identify evidence of this culture in the forested steppes of southwest Siberia near Russia’s fifth century border with northern Kazakhstan. Archaeological artifacts and burial remains show that the Sargats lived a horse herding lifestyle centered around raising sheep and cattle. A nomadic tradespeople, their wares were typically milk products, meat and textiles. Social structure, determined from burial rituals, reflect that women were regarded equally as men with regard to managing herds and local governance. Warrior status, however, was an elite status reserved for only the most wealthy and powerful males.

DNA evidence of remains also revealed a curious Iranian ancestry link as well. So, the Sargats were probably originally Finnish and eventually intermarried with other tribespeople living in Siberia, coming into contact through trade and war. Ancestry for Siberians can be traced not only to Finland and Iran but also to Turkey, Mongolia and China as well as traces of Viking influences.

Interestingly enough, the style of the controversial Siberian structure shows Chinese architectural influences. The official name of the site is “Por-Bajin” and is considered a mystery by the experts who have been studying it for decades. The name is derived from the Tuvan language and means “clay house”.  Sitting near the border of Russia and Mongolia, it is then probably no surprise to see a Chinese influence in the design.

Researchers liken the layout to resembling a typical Buddhist temple. This similarity along with its isolated location and the fact that the cultures of this time were nomadic and not organized in such ways as to see an imperial palace as something useful, causes the gringa to consider the monastery theory to be more credible than a fortress type imperial summer palace or astronomical observatory. Like Catholic missionaries who traveled to remote places all over the world and constructed missions and convents, Buddhist monks followed a similar tradition.

Another curiosity is that the structure lacks any evidence of a heating system, even one that would be basic and crude. Surely that, too, would rule out an imperial summer palace. Siberia, even in the hottest period of a summer season, would still be uncomfortably cool without any heat source within a dwelling. To try to survive a winter without heat would be a death sentence. So, even as a monastery, monks could only be in residence during the summer.

The gringa loves a good mystery and will certainly be eagerly awaiting more news and future developments regarding “Por-Bajin”. With the effects of climate change causing permafrost melt resulting in water levels rising in Lake Tere-Khol, the caveman and I better put it on our climate change related priority travel list to see it before the waters swallow it up!

CTs, Just As Interesting As ETs

The past couple of weeks the gringa has enjoyed exploring the veracity of claims that attempt to link extra-terrestrial origins to ancient Egyptians and ancient Peruvians. Writing about such topics can result in interesting messages imploring me to also explore conspiracy theories connected with the “space race”. I have been encouraged to delve into the “black ops” and “secret space programs” that have been ongoing for decades.

Now, although the gringa finds such ideas intriguing and fascinating, I have foregone writing on such subjects because of the principle of journalistic integrity. The very nature of a black operation or secret government program makes it impossible to verify any accusation. But I must admit my natural curiosity and love of science fiction has made it impossible for me to resist.

The compromise I will make is to write a post that makes no claim as to whether these programs really do exist or not but, rather, present the claims that have been made. Although I may offer opinions, sarcastic or otherwise, I will attempt to remain true to a policy of journalistic integrity. I encourage the dear reader to simply enjoy the read and please do not run out and invest in a prepper bunker.  Here goes…

What Is The Dark Fleet?

According to certain conspiracy theorists the Dark Fleet is a secret, government black ops space program. These CTs (not ETs, dear reader, but CTs… conspiracy theorists) claim that there is grave danger to the public posed by this program. The aim of this program is to save mankind from extinction upon this slowly dying planet. However, the danger is that not all of us will be saved. Only the elite (wealthy) and highly skilled will be rescued. As a matter of fact, many of the these elite and highly skilled have already been removed from this planet and transferred to cosmic colonies throughout the twenty years this secret space program has been in operation.

Apparently the origins of Dark Fleet are found within Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Germany. Desperately developing advanced technologies that would help the Nazis win the war and rule the world, Hitler funneled huge amounts of cash into different research and development programs. The ranks of the Nazi party were conditioned to be naturally suspicious of everyone. Because of this many secret societies evolved, like-minded Nazis working together for specific group goals. Many of these secret societies were devoted to developing world changing technologies.

It is easy to peruse historical records of World War II and discover that Nazis ventured all over the world, expeditions dedicated to research as well as collection of unusual objects, sacred objects and esoteric objects. CTs claim that they were also looking for extra-terrestrial objects and technologies connected to ancient civilizations. But they assert that the expeditions actually commenced immediately after World War I. Now, World War I officially ended November 11, 1918. The Nazi party officially formed February 24, 1920. So, it’s possible this assertion is true that Nazis were searching for esoteric items long before World War II began.

Thanks to the gringa’s previous posts of the past couple of weeks, we can all rest assured that the Nazis didn’t find ET technology in Egypt or Peru. But, according to the CTs, that’s not where the Nazis searched. The Nazi expeditions were dispatched to China, India and Tibet. CTs claim that while there they discovered ancient texts which they confiscated as well as forcibly removing monks and scribes to serve as interpreters, transporting all back to Germany.

As Hitler and the Nazi party came into official power in the 1930s, the search for objects and texts that could contain the potential of amazing power grew with great fervor. The most active Nazi secret societies involved in this activity have been named by CTs as: Thule, Vril and Black Sun. Hmmm. Can anything be discovered about a secret society? Wouldn’t that be oxymoronish? Public access to information about a club that is secret so officially doesn’t exist?

Thule Society – Apparently these guys were not too good at keeping secrets. They actually have a Wikipedia page so they are no big secret. They sponsored the German Workers’ party which was later reorganized by Hitler into the National Socialist German Workers’ Party and was his political vehicle to power.

This not-so-secret secret society evidently has, at some time or other, published their old membership list which contains the names of some very illustrious Nazis. Of course, true to Nazi ideology, the tenets of belief were commitment to the purity of the Aryan race and denouncing relations to any non-Aryan. The name of the society is rooted in a belief that an ancient landmass named Thule once existed in the northernmost regions of Scandinavia and this is where the Aryan race originated.

Not only did Thule members believe in an Atlantis type motherland, but they also believed that the Earth was hollow. The hollow earth theory purports that the outer earth is a protective bubble housing an entire civilization secretly within. The Thulies believed that the inhabitants of inner earth had psychokinetic powers and if they could harness this power for the Nazi party they could rule the world.

The Thule Society is a favorite among CTs because this secret society had a belief in ETs, supernatural abilities and esoteric practices such as alchemy.

Vril – And yet another not-so-secret society with a Wikipedia page and all sorts of public information widely available. Interestingly enough, there is no hard evidence to prove or disprove this secret society actually existed so they were better at keeping secrets than the Thule.

The closest thing to “evidence” that such a society existed is a quote from a magazine article written by Willy Ley, a rocket engineer from Germany who was “relocated” to the U.S. in 1937. Ley claims that this “secret society” was founded based on an 1871 novel “The Coming Race” authored by Edward Bulwer-Lyton. Its premise was a fictional account of Earth’s sub-terranean “master race” who used their supernatural power that was called “vril”. Famous occultists like Helena Blavatsky claimed that this work of fiction was, in fact, based upon secret, esoteric truths. The gringa only says, “Mm hmm.”

The membership roll of Vril reads like a “Who’s Who” of old school psychics. Probably all on board because of their devotion to the queen of all psychics, Helena Blavatsky.

Needless to say, the gringa believes it to be one heck of a stretch by CTs to attribute any credibility to Vril ideology much less the actual existence of a secret society by the same name that has secret space technology. No, rather than a secret ET society, it sounds more like a secret book club.

Black Sun –  Not only does this not-so-secret secret society have a Wikipedia page, among many other information resources, they even have their own dot-org website. Yes, not a secret at all. They boldly proclaim their online presence. However, the gringa highly doubts that this is the original Black Sun secret society of Nazi era Germany. Rather, it is probably produced by CTs who desperately want to legitimize their cause. So, the gringa returns to Wikipedia.

This secret society has its own occult symbol that was openly used by Nazis, so, again, not so secret. The philosophy of Black Sun ideology is that when consciousness reaches ultimate enlightenment light and darkness reverse, thus what was hidden becomes revealed.

Experts on secret societies say that the Black Sun secret society was a secret society within a secret society. I know, I know, the dear reader is scratching their head saying, “What was that?” The Black Sun membership was comprised of the elite ranks within the Thule secret society. Aha, secrets within secrets because, like the gringa said, Nazis were hyper-suspicious and trusted no one, not even a secret society blood brother.

The secrets of this society have remained mostly hidden. Evidently, they had such a bad reputation (and a Heinrich Himmler connection) that even today it is illegal in Germany to reproduce their symbols and wear its insignia. This secret organization was strongly connected to the expeditions into Tibet.

The Tibet missions centered around the SS searching for sacred relics (the Holy Grail and Ark of the Covenant) and extra-terrestrial technology, presumably from crash-landed UFOs.

Their Activity Today

CTs claim that members of these secret societies are alive and well and working from secret bases in Antarctica and South America. Supposedly they have created advanced spacecraft and weapons. They claim this is the real reason behind Admiral Byrd’s Antarctica expedition, to lead an invasion force of 4,000 American, Australian and British troops into this secret Nazi base. In a mission dubbed “Operation High Jump”, CTs claim that Byrd’s forces met with strong resistance by Nazis using their advanced spacecraft and weapons.

Interestingly enough, much of “Operation High Jump” can actually be confirmed. For Byrd’s expedition to be only exploratory in nature, it is highly provocative to discover that among the naval vessels in the fleet were destroyers, submarines, and an aircraft carrier. It gets curioser and curioser to the gringa when U.S. National Defense archives record that one of the vessels, USS Pine Island (a seaplane tender) was not just sold and scrapped but was actually struck from all Naval records.

Upon the conclusion of Admiral Byrd’s “exploration mission”, he returned and recommended that allied forces establish a military defense base at the North Pole. Now, at the time of these recommendations the war was over. So, what was it that he perceived to be a threat? The gringa smells a mystery and upcoming research on all things related to Admiral Byrd.

CTs also claim that scientific and engineering experts within these organizations succeeded in building an anti-gravity spaceship and that it was confiscated by the American military and returned to the U.S. under the utmost secrecy. In fact, the conspiracy of CTs goes even deeper.

They assert that these secret societies populated by Nazi party members were actually not devoted to Nazi ideology. Rather, they exploited the resources and power of the party to further their own agenda. When Nazi Germany ultimately lost the war they then aligned themselves willingly with the United States who was willing to secretly fund the research and development of their highly advanced toys of war. The offshoot of this is the development of a U.S. dark ops space program called “Dark Fleet”.

And to discover the CT claims for the details of the “Dark Fleet” program, the dear reader will just have to come back for the next interesting installment.

A quick recap of what the gringa thinks are the only credible point of interest: the records of Admiral Byrd. I believe the secret society of Vril to be wishful thinking on the part of CTs. It was actually a book club which desperately wished for the story to be true. However, desperately wishing something so does not make it so. If the Thule secret society was based on the existence of a non-existence figment of an author’s imagination, Vril, then, although it was a real secret society, its basis for existence, the discovery of Vril’s location in order to exploit the supernatural power of its inhabitants, has no connection with reality. That would also mean that the secret society Black Sun within the secret society Thule was also based on something which did not exist. All of this would then mean that it is highly unlikely that “Dark Fleet” is a reality. But the gringa digs on.

Comet Fly-By Evidence For 1480BC

In the last installment of the gringa’s examination of “evidence” used by ufologists and ancient alien theorists to assert that ancient Egypt had extra-terrestrial contact or were extra-terrestrial hybrids, I explored the theories and ideas associated with the Tulli papyrus. Rather than perceive the dubious document as an ancient Egyptian record of a sighting of mass UFO visitation, the gringa interpreted the astronomical event to be a near fly-by of a comet cluster. So, the obvious next question is, “Were there any comets in Earth’s vicinity around the time of 1480BC or thereabouts?”

Even though expert translators dated the Tulli papyrus to 1480BC there is definitely room for error where that date is concerned. They could not definitively attribute it to the reign of Thutmosis III. They also did not have access to the alleged original papyrus to conduct Carbon 14 dating or any other diagnotic tests to determine its age. So, the gringa goes with the “1480BC or thereabouts” timeline.

When the gringa allows a bit of fluidity in the timeline, things do, indeed, get interesting. There seems to be astronomical and historical records to support a comet cluster or massive comet with a large tail. Author Graham Phillips asserts in his book, “The End of Eden”, that an extraordinary comet event occurred which the civilizations of Earth reacted to with awe and fear in 1486BC.

Confirming the 1486BC comet event are Chinese court records of observation of a comet with ten tails during this same time period. The Chinese record is preserved on a swath of silk, the Mawangdui Silk Almanac, and is preserved in Changsha, China at the Hunan Provincial Museum. This court record was discovered in the 1970s in a tomb and was part of an almanac of astronomical records. The almanac was dated to about 300BC and included an entry for the ten tailed comet of 1486BC.

The significance of this event is that it changed religious history in China as well as Egypt and could very well have been the catalyst for years of war and conquest that ensued throughout Asia, India and Egypt after it appeared. Monotheism worshipping a single great god began to be practiced in China and Egypt. Ancient glyphs depicting what appears to be the same comet appear in China and Egypt:

chinese lao tien yeh glyp

Chinese Lao-Tien-Yeh glyph

glyph of aten

Egyptian glyph of Aten

Considering that the Tulli papyrus recorded that the event was smelly and rained down fish and “volatiles” (the gringa supposes this would mean objects that were considered to have been burned, were on fire, hot or smelled sulphurous), if it was a comet fly-by, this would have been caused by tail debris breaking loose and passing through Earth’s atmosphere and raining down upon Egypt with large pieces impacting the rivers thus throwing up fish. Are there comets capable of this?

From 467BC-466BC ancient Greek celestial records report that a comet, possibly Halley’s comet, passed Earth. The Greek records indicate that a great meteorite impacted the northern region of Greece. Could this have really occurred? Does Halley’s Comet get close enough to Earth for tail debris to possibly be affected by Earth’s gravity, break away, enter the atmosphere, and, ultimately, if it doesn’t burn up during entry, impact the Earth?

In 1910 the New York Times reported that the tail of Halley’s Comet (it is 24 million miles long) would be traveling through Earth’s atmosphere for a duration of about six hours. It seems entirely possible that any large comet that passes near enough Earth to be seen with the naked eye, with a tail long enough that debris in the tail could enter Earth’s atmosphere, might have tail debris that could be affected by Earth’s gravity, break away and fall to Earth.

Halley's Comet.philosophyofscienceportal.blogspot

Interestingly enough Halley’s Comet has a predictable cycle and elaborate tail. It visits Earth about every 75 years. It’s earliest confirmed arrival is in Chinese astronomical records of 240BC. It is entirely possible this was the comet seen in China and Egypt 1240 years earlier in 1486BC. But there are also other comets that could have been seen:

7tail.de.cheseaux.1744

The “Great Comet of 1744”, also known as de Cheseaux’s comet, was a magnificent 7-tailed comet observed from November, 1743 until April, 1744. During these months it shone with such brightness it was visible to the naked eye. It was rated as being the sixth brightest classification for a comet. This means that even during the day it was as bright as the Sirius star at night.

It was observed all over the world with astronomical records of the United States, France, Russia and Japan among the many nations who have official records of the comet’s sighting. Japanese records even indicate that their astronomers detected audible noises and an aurora as tail particles interacted with Earth’s magnetosphere.

comet1680merian

The Great Comet of 1680 was visible from November, 1680 until February, 1681. Astronomers all over the world recorded this event and artists immortalized it. Official astronomical records can be found in Germany and the United States.

e.l.trouvelot.nypl.

The Great Comet of 1882, also called the Great Comet of 1881, or the Great September Comet of 1882, or Super Comet, may very well be the brightest comet ever observed by Earthlings. Italian sailors first reported it to authorities in September, 1882. It grew brighter as it traveled toward the Sun. Astronomical records from Spain called it a blazing star. Eventually it broke into four sections and could be observed for weeks as a bright heavenly object with a luminous tail.

With all of this data on comets and historical records confirming observances in China during the same event recorded on the Tulli papyrus, the gringa’s belief that the Tulli papyrus recorded a comet event is now stronger than ever.

Here Comes The Sun, Little Darlin’

China may be one step closer to saying, “Bye, bye,” to fossil fuels. With their latest invention, an artificial sun of hydrogen gas, in fact, an incredibly dense artificial sun of hydrogen gas that is triple the power of that glorious glowing ball of gas high in the sky, they may very well have a limitless power source.

The first thought is, “Hurrah! The global energy crisis is over! Human caused acceleration of climate change can be ceased with no more use of fossil fuels!” However, the gringa hates to be the cynic and rain on everyone’s parade. I will withhold my judgement that this incredible invention will work successfully, everything going as planned. And, if it does, that it will be put to use for humanitarian purposes for the benefit of mankind. The gringa will “wait and see”.

China’s Institute of Physical Science in Hefei is the brainchild and creator of a magnetic fusion reactor that has produced this seemingly inexhaustible source of hydrogen based energy. This is a direct outgrowth from technology developed over 60 years ago by Soviet scientists who created the Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST). It is a metallic chamber shaped like a figure-8.  The reactor can produce hydrogen energy up to 50 million Kelvins (that’s almost 50 million degrees Celsius or 122 million degrees Fahrenheit). Wow, that’s enough to curl my hair! Consider that the sun burns at about 15 million Kelvins. So, China’s man-made sun is more than three times as hot as the real McCoy. It’s not as big a deal as it seems because scientists were only able to maintain this core temperature for less than two minutes.

Now, really, this artificial sun news is really no new news. The Germans claimed to have created such a thing already. The real news is the length of time the existence of the “sun” lasted. However, at two minutes a pop, the gringa doesn’t see how this is really going to change the energy game around the world. China, Germany and Russia are still years, probably even decades, away from perfecting the technology to the point that it will even matter to mankind.

And really, despite all the fuss being made over China, artificial suns are actually a dime a dozen. The technology has been around for ages. And every nation that has a decent scientific community has one. Consider Coelux. This Italian invention uses nano technology to create the natural lighting of the sun and sky. This technology is being used around the world in museums, shopping malls, airports, subways, garages, and even homes.

However, the gringa’s favorite use of Italy’s artificial sun is in healthcare. The medical community is responding to the human aversion of being confined. By introducing artificial natural light (if THAT’S not an oxymoron!) into treatment rooms that are usually windowless, medical professionals are seeing patients respond positively through the psychological and physiological benefits of being in a space illuminated by the sun and sky.

People can even enjoy this at home. Even on a rainy day you can be enjoying the rays of a tropical sun. And the Italians are not just scientifically sterile in their lighting craft. Channeling Italy’s deep roots within the art community, they offer lighting perspectives for every taste: dramatic tropical sun, a gentle Mediterranean sun, or a cool Nordic sun. The gringa thinks this is sensational, um, I meant “sunsational” (darn you, auto-correct)!
